Every Thunder Lane Mustang kit — TL-ONE or TL-PRO — includes front camber plates and inverted front struts as standard equipment, not optional upgrades. Here's why those two pieces of hardware matter specifically on the S550/S650 platform, and what they actually do for the car.
Why inverted front struts on a Mustang
An inverted strut mounts the larger, stiffer body tube up near the chassis instead of down near the wheel, which increases rigidity exactly where front struts see the most lateral and braking load. On a Mustang — a heavy, powerful car that generates real load through corners and under hard braking — that rigidity reduces bending load on the strut shaft and keeps damping behavior consistent even when the front end is working hard.
Thunder Lane's Mustang struts use a 36mm piston in a 40mm body, sized for the loads this platform generates. The practical result is a front end that stays composed under repeated hard use — track sessions, autocross runs, whatever's stressing the suspension — rather than one that degrades in feel as the day goes on.
Why camber plates matter more once you've lowered the car
Stock top mounts hold your strut at a fixed angle. Lowering the car on a fixed-geometry setup changes your camber curve as a side effect — not necessarily in a direction you'd choose. Camber plates replace that fixed mount with an adjustable one, so you can correct for that shift and then dial in additional negative camber independently of ride height.
For track driving specifically, more negative camber than a street alignment would tolerate helps keep the tire's contact patch loaded through hard cornering, where the outside tire is doing most of the work. For a Mustang running HPDE or Time Attack, that adjustment range is the difference between a car that just sits lower and one that's actually set up to use the tire properly.
Why we don't treat these as upsells
Some coilover kits sell camber plates and upgraded strut hardware as separate add-ons.
